To better strengthen UMANT during transitions and to clarify succession processes, the proposed amendment would add "Immediate Past-President" as a formal member of the Executive Board with voting privileges and would add "Immediate Past-President" into the order of succession. This amendment is modeled after similar procedures with TCMA.

The link for the proposed by-law amendment is here: UMANT Bylaw Amendment 2024.

    Background:

Last year, the role of Immediate Past President was highlighted due to the President being on work leave from the birth of her new baby and the Vice President moving out of the DFW area for a new job. The one-year presidential term and the subsequent pressure on transitions make UMANT prone to institutional weaknesses.

Discussions regarding a proposed amendment were held last year and this year. Feedback was collected through discussions and a survey promoted through the UMANT website.

The survey ("Do you agree or disagree with the proposed amendment?") was pushed via email January 22nd, January 24th, and announced during the Executive Committee Meeting February 2nd. At the meeting, the amendment was again discussed.

At the February 2nd Executive Committee Meeting, a motion was made and seconded to place the by-law amendment on a ballot. It was voted upon and the amendment was approved and passed unanimously.

The ballot will close Sunday, March 24th, and the results of the ballot will be canvassed at the April 5th Executive Committee Meeting.

The ballot will be up for 30 days. Acceptance of rejection or revisions shall be determined by a simple majority of votes of the entire membership*.

*Membership does not include lapsed members or overdue renewals (Section IV., Item b., subsection i. Dues shall be paid annually.)
